Taking into account learners' needs in vocational qualifications is crucial for creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes their success and development. The students on the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) I am responsible for only attend the college one day a week for their academic qualifications. This means that in addition to their full-time job and academic responsibilities, they have to complete fourteen vocational units. I collaborate with learners to set realistic targets and establish a plan that takes into account their learning preferences, strengths, and areas for improvement. I regularly review and adjust the plans as learners progress to ensure ongoing support. I provide flexibility in instructional approaches to accommodate diverse learning styles and preferences. Incorporate a variety of teaching methods to engage learners with different learning preferences. I offer personalised support to address individual needs.
I have to be flexible in setting support sessions for the students. The scheduled times for these support sessions during the working week are student-led. These sessions are recorded so that the students can refer back to them for additional support. Also, I provide feedback to the students outside of my scheduled period. In addition, I randomly and briefly meet them during their college day, Friday, to answer any pertinent questions.
I foster open and regular communication with learners to understand their evolving needs and challenges. I create a supportive atmosphere where learners feel comfortable expressing their concerns, seeking assistance, and providing feedback. I actively listen to their input and incorporate their suggestions into the learning experience whenever possible.
I adopt an ongoing assessment approach that allows for continuous feedback and timely interventions. I regularly assess learners' progress to identify any areas where additional support or adjustments are needed. Also, I provide constructive feedback that acknowledges their strengths and offers guidance on areas for improvement.
